As stated by a high-ranking military official, the US armed forces executed a lethal kinetic engagement on a vessel in the eastern Pacific, resulting in the deaths of four people.

“A US joint task force conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a craft operated by a terrorist group in international waters. Surveillance confirmed the vessel was traveling along a established drug smuggling route and was involved in illicit drug transport. A total of four male narco-terrorists were eliminated, and no US military forces were injured.”

Background and Recent Actions

The statement comes a day after an announcement regarding a blockade of all targeted oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. That statement on social media, the US president accused Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund narcotics smuggling and criminal activities, pledging to escalate the military buildup.

Just on Tuesday, US defense officials said it had conducted strikes on three boats suspected of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Beginning on 2 September, over 20 military engagements have killed at least 99 individuals, most off the coast of Venezuela.

Administration Defends Tactics Amid Scrutiny

The administration has encountered growing pressure to release video of a 2 September vessel attack. However, the defense secretary have refused to do so. The administration has supported its efforts as a successful operation, saying it has stopped drugs from reaching US shores and has pushed back on concerns that it is stretching the limits of lawful warfare.

Although the administration has said the operation is about stopping drugs headed to the US, remarks from a senior aide appeared to suggest a wider geopolitical aim. In a recent interview, the senior advisor remarked the leader “wants to keep on destroying vessels until the Venezuelan president surrenders or concedes.”

This suggests the series of strikes may be linked to a strategy to oust Venezuela's sitting government.
